McDevitt: Admin error not loophole that allowed abuse brothers to return home

SDLP South Belfast Assembly Member Conall McDevitt has uncovered that an administrative error allowed two brothers accused of abusing children to return to their homes in Donagh, Co Fermanagh after they were deemed mentally unfit to stand trial. It had previously been assumed a legal loophole was responsible but Mr McDevitt discovered at meeting of the Assembly’s justice committee that approval of the brothers’ living arrangements had not been obtained despite an order from a judge.

SDLP regional development spokesperson Conall McDevitt has said the DRD Minister does not display a firm grasp of all the details of what was occurring in his department prior to the suspension of Paul Priestly and still has questions to answer. Mr McDevitt questioned Conor Murphy at a committee meeting in Stormont on Wednesday.
